Stabbing In Prison

TWO jail inmates faced court yesterday over the stabbing of another inmate at a Muswellbrook prison.

A 29-year-old man underwent emergency surgery after suffering injuries to his abdomen at the St Heliers Correctional Centre about 5.30pm on Monday.

The two accused, aged 24 and 25, were questioned by Muswellbrook detectives before being charged with one count each of malicious wounding.

Police said two knives were taken for analysis.

The injured man was reported to be in a serious but stable condition yesterday.
